The over 9000 acres of Tettegouche State Park, which carries over 40 species of mammals and 140 species of birds, also shows a wide variety of geological formations.

Some of the older rock formations —basaltic lava — go back over a billion years, forming much of Palisade Head and Shovel Point. Further inland is the rough and hilly terrain that the Superior Hiking Trail traverses. A lot of space to explore and enjoy.
