This is one of the illustrations for the children’s book I illustrated—If You Want to See a Caribou—written by Phyllis Root. It’s the story of a journey by sailboat to the Slate Islands at the northern end of Lake Superior. The Slate Islands were formed by a meteorite impact about 450 million years ago. There is a herd of Caribou on the Islands that are known to have crossed an ice bridge in to get there most recently in 1907.
